The Future of Mobile Is Artificial Intelligence

November 4, 2016 by Rakesh Doddera

Time has become a luxury in this modern day and age. There are so many tasks that demand human attention so Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as the savior of mankind. Not only does AI get the job done quickly but it also affords a higher level of precision. An ability that AI shares with the human mind is its tendency to learn and grow. It can be “taught” to perform a certain way. Google’s DeepMind is an excellent example of this phenomenon. Its researchers, Alexander Graves and Greg Wayne claim that it can learn like neural networks and hold extensive data in reserve. Meanwhile, mobile technology has made itself known in every aspect of our daily lives.

The next logical step would be to be combine artificial intelligence and mobile technology. Significant experimentation is underway to develop smart ways to tackle problems using this powerful duo. Apple and Google are among the leaders in mobile artificial intelligence research. The results have been promising so far hinting at considerable potential in major industries.

Personal assistants on mobile

Apple’s Siri, introduced to consumers in 2010, is an efficient personal assistant and navigator. It works by collecting your personal data from your smartphone and sifting through it to discover your preferences. The two-way communication can be conducted in your first language according to the location settings on your iPhone. Siri is also available in Apple Watch and Apple TV. Those with CarPlay can also enjoy it and it was recently introduced to the Macintosh. Reports have been trickling in this month via Bloomberg that Initially, Siri Inc. planned to expand its services to all mobile operating systems by since it was acquired by Apple, this dream could not be realized.

Fortunately, the success of Siri and similar artificial intelligence programs in various industries spurred others to develop similar solutions for users. Google Now offered voice based searches and limited voice commands until recently, when Google transformed this experience. It has been renamed Google Assistant and the number of features it possesses has increased in particular two-way communication, just like Apple’s Siri.

Microsoft’s Cortana debuted two years ago and is still evolving in competition with Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant. It is available for a limited number of languages including French, Portguese, English and Japanese at the moment. It can help you with your to-do list by setting reminders. Cortana responds to natural voice input and answers queries via Bing search engine. It is also handy for making accurate forecasts and predictions based on the data present through search engines.
Samsung has bought Viv this month so a major competitor in artificial intelligence for mobile may emerge soon. Viv is a startup from the creators of Apple’s Siri. Viv’s personal assistant is also going to operate via a voice based interaction between device and user.

Experimental to practical

Currently, the kind of artificial intelligence that has reached the hands of consumers revolves around low level tasks and simple processing. This is because a lot of testing and research goes into a product of artificial intelligence. Even though important breakthroughs have been made in the field of artificial intelligence, the results need to be adapted to the requirements of the average smartphone user. Research is funded by grants but of course, significant investment is needed for mass production. This is the gap that has to be bridged in order for artificial intelligence integrated into mobile technology to really hit it off with the masses.

Another issue emerges from a business point of view. For instance, Android fragmentation is a major hurdle for any new release of update by Google. It will take a long time and a lot of money to make artificial intelligence accessible to all users. Apple is better off in this regard since it updates its single OS every now and then.

Burdens of the modern age

The acceleration of mobile growth in recent years has been brilliant and beneficial for all sorts of industries. However, the sheer number of apps, devices and services now available to the common man has caused digital friction. Mobile technology is supposed to enhance the quality of life and it is doing that job wonderfully. On the other hand, we are facing challenges because it’s too much for the human mind to handle alone. We are steadily reaching our limit.

This is where artificial intelligence comes in. Science fiction movies and books have always shown us futuristic visions where artificial intelligence is widely prevalent. That is the type of innovation scientists are aiming for. The idea is to share the burden of handling so much information. As you know, smartphone users today have countless options they never had before. The problem is that these options lead to more options until there is an endless sea of information the human mind is unable to process efficiently. Artificial intelligence knows how to sift through data and narrow down choices for you so you don’t need to perform that manually. For example, Google Assistant gives you alerts about events you plan to attend and shows you more filtered options you might be interested in depending on the ones you have gone to before.

AI in optimization

You have probably become familiar with how apps offer you improved options by collecting information about your location, gender, age, history etc. This means that you only get recommendations which are most relevant to you. You must have noticed how apps like YouTube customize your recommendations in each category like Music and News depending on what you have watched before. You will probably be offered songs from the same artist and news from a certain location or in a particular industry. This not only makes it convenient for you but allows a personal touch. Artificial intelligence has major applications with regards to optimizing services for mobile users.

Having artificial intelligence at the core of personal technology really helps create a better user experience and provides businesses with improved user feedback. As a result, the overall quality of the app is boosted and the business learns how to please their consumers more. There are many restrictions in apps these days which causes no small amount of frustration to users. You will have noticed how reviewers are constantly complaining about how the app doesn’t let them do this or that. App developers are constantly producing better feedback systems other than basic ratings of apps. Artificial intelligence can remove such issues by learning to fulfill the users’ demands and allowing different platforms to work together.

Smart decision making

We have already established that artificial intelligence is not something developed to perform a certain set of tasks. It is designed to grow, programmed to learn the existing trends and store relevant knowledge. All these attributes enable artificial intelligence to make dozens of minor decisions for you based on your personal preferences. So, it is not like control is being taken away from you.

It saves your time and energy allowing you to focus on important jobs that the artificial intelligence cannot do for you. When you search via keywords on your Google app, it’s going to show you not just the most highly ranked websites but also suggestions based on your location. You don’t need to spell out an entire query because Google Assistant just needs a keyword to deliver high quality links.

Look forward to fresh updates

Keep an eye out for exciting updates in existing mobile artificial intelligence. Apple has connected Siri to third party apps like Pinterest, LinkedIn and iOS games. So, now you can direct Siri to reply to messages on LinkedIn, find pins on your profile on Pinterest or specific pictures on The Roll. You can even make moves in mobile games through voice commands. You can basically dictate messages to Siri and they will be sent to the recipient automatically. The Google Assistant works in a similar way. You can ask any question you like and it will use the Google search engine to deliver suitable links.

For instance, if you are looking for an eatery or club near you, it will utilize your location data to find the perfect spot for you. This also applies to the data saved on your Android phone. The Google Assistant will bring out misplaced files and photos quickly when you ask it to. This kind of voice directing system allows you to multitask more efficiently. Another angle of Google Assistant is to gauge your needs and

The future is definitely going to be all about smart assistants incorporated into our lifestyle from home appliances to personal technology. As new players jump into the game, it spurs on competition leading to astonishing innovation. The new updates in existing artificial intelligence in mobile technology appear promising so we can expect bigger and better products next year.

Top Ten Apps All Top Android Smartphones Must Never Miss

May 27, 2016 by Rakesh Doddera

A simple trip to the app store will leave you spoilt for choice, and this is likely to be the case if you have recently acquired one of those much-hyped phones, such as the Galaxy s7 or the latest from Apple. Needless to say, app developers are burning the midnight oil to create as many apps as possible. You can easily save 50% of your communication bills using these apps.

Maybe you need to go through this article written by Couponmachine on, how mobile apps affect communication bills. However, a good deal of the apps may be considered bloat ware – they fill up the storage in your smartphone but play no significant role. The excitement that accompanies the purchase of a top-of-the range mobile device should not necessarily plunge the new owner into an app spree. Nevertheless, your new phone would not be worth the package wrapping its hardware if it doesn’t have the following apps:

LastPass

The moment you hold a new phone in your hands, the first thing to come to your mind is its security features. You think about the security of the phone itself as well as data. You wouldn’t one somebody snooping around your phone. It becomes even more complicated when you have several accounts with different passwords. You wonder if you will be able to remember all of them. LastPass is your best shot. The app saves all your passwords and auto-fills them into the sites you visit frequently. It also features a password generator that creates passwords, which are hard to crack. It does away with using birth dates or social security numbers as passwords!

Google drive

Your phone memory will always be limited. Now that your phone is soon replacing your laptop, you need ample storage for all your information, applications, and data. Your laptop will soon be relegated to a small back-up device. You have no choice but to download Google drive. Upon sign-up, you get access to a large 15 GB storage space free. Google drive stands out from the crowd because it offers you plenty of features such as Google Docs, Google sheets, Google slides and Google photos. You can virtually open any document on Google drive.

Nearbuy

Your phone can become much more than a communication device if you install the Nearbuy app. The app helps find businesses, restaurants, gas stations and many other facilities within your locality, or wherever you go. You can also land coupons and lucrative deals from nearby business – right from your smartphone. However, you need to remember that it requires the internet connection. Therefore, ensure that your phone stays connected to a stable internet so as to enjoy the full features of Nearbuy. This does not take anything away from this great app.

Evernote

Note taking has become part and parcel of our lives. Evernote is indispensable. It comes with a host of features. You can add an audio or video clip to your notes, making them interesting. The app also allows the user to insert an image into the notes. The app will also appeal to you even more because it can create lists. With Evernote on your mobile device, you will never need to move around with traditional writing materials. There is nothing wrong carrying a pen and a piece of paper for your notes, but you may lose the piece of paper or crumple it up absent-mindedly.

Here maps

You might wonder why you need another map app when you already have Google Maps pre-installed on your phone for Android users. Here maps ascended to fame via its offline ability. You can download maps to your phone and use them even when you no longer have an internet connection. While offline, the app still provides a turn-by-turn navigation support. This would be quite useful when touring remote places, which have no internet network support. Keep in mind that the worst can always happen and you run out broadband. You have your back covered by this wonderful app. Besides, it is absolutely free: just head to the app store and download it.

Google play music

The music systems in your house will soon be gathering dust due to disuse. I can bet with my bank account that all your favorite music and videos are currently tacked away in your phone storage. In simple terms, you are using your smartphone a multi-media player. Well, to enhance your multi-media experience, you need to install Google play music on your phone. The app enables you to upload your music to the cloud so you stream them on the go. If you combine it with You-Tube, you will have a truly amazing experience with your phone. If you need special features on this app, you can easily access by paying less than $10 per month. Nevertheless, the free version can do the job perfectly fine.

Pushbullet

There are many times you have tried to connect your phone to the PC. This often happens when you need to transfer data between the devices. In cases, your connection will be limited to sharing media and, of course, charging. With the Pushbullet app on your phone, you can do much more with the interconnection between the devices. You can make calls and send text messages from PC. You can also update the firmware on your phone via this app. Although the app currently exists as a paid version – you will need $50 per year to sustain it – its free version is just as effective. If you have not installed this app on your phone, dash to the app store and experience the difference.

SwiftKey

Well, you do more typing on your phone than your computer. You are always typing something on your phone. It may be a text message, keywords into a search engine or renaming all the apps on your phone. Consequently, you could do well with an app that makes your typing easier. Try SwiftKey and you will never be disappointed. It not only supports multiple languages but it also has many great features such as gesture typing. It would look awkward for your new phone to miss such an essential app.

Microsoft SMS Organizer

Knowing the importance of SMS in one’s life, here we wanted to share an Android texting app that makes SMS managing easier.  The Android SMS app we introduce to our readers is Microsoft SMS Organizer.  It classifies your text messages and helps you focus on important messages.  The app is lightweight and takes up less than 4MB of space on a mobile device.  Moreover, it works completely offline.  No need to worry about the privacy. The app won’t ask you to upload any SMS or Meta information to the cloud for classifying.

Is it Legal to Spy on Your Employees?

April 22, 2016 by Rakesh Doddera

While talking about parents who spy on kids we usually say it is not “spying” but “parenting”. Yet, when it comes to spying on employees, it is just plain old snooping no matter what your intentions are. At times, employers do hesitate about spying on their employees. They do respect the privacy of the person working for them, but, when the employee in question gives them a reason to suspect otherwise, they usually have no reason but to keep an eye on them.

Thus, the need for spy software like TheOneSpy arises in corporate situations, especially when certain businesses find themselves in a legal nightmare which makes monitoring and using surveillance software of employee computers a good thing.

Is Using Spy Software In A Workspace Legal?

Still, question arises that whether or not is it legal to spy on your employees. Once again, there is no clear cut answer to this question either because of the technicality involved. The answer mostly depends on how you are using spy software to keep an eye on employees and why did the need arise in the first place.
Ways in Which Spying On Your Employees Is Legal

• Email Surveillance

Usually, employees do not have any privacy right to the emails sent over a work computer or a work network. Many employers invest into email system that duplicate and stores every single email send by employees to look for illegal use, productivity and many other legitimate concerns.
But, even through Federal wiretapping allows employers to look into employees emails and other employee communications, it still needs to be done with employee’s consent and the employer must, under any circumstances, have a legitimate business purpose for doing so.

• Video Surveillance

Just like looking into ongoing communications at any workplace, an employer can also look into the video-only recordings, as long as it is being used for a legitimate purpose. A few of these legitimate reasons include:
 Theft Prevention
 Security Maintenance
 Productivity Measurement
At the moment, employers do not need employee’s consent to video surveillance. The employee doesn’t even need to know about it. However, many state laws do restrict the use of video surveillance where the practise is physically invasive (i.e. in the form of hidden cameras in the bathroom).

• Audio Surveillance

Unlike email and video surveillance, wiretapping laws make it illegal to record vocal communications in a sly manner at a work place without the employees’ consent. Not only that, but audio surveillance without consent is illegal in about 15 states.

• Social Media Surveillance

Even though it is illegal in a number of states to discipline employees on the basis of their off duty activities on social media platforms, yet, an employer is allowed to take action against any employee if the tarnish the company name on the social media in any way.
Plus, if you are stalking your co-worker on your office computer or using other company provided hardware, or looking up sensitive material or photographs, do bear in mind that as long as you are using your company’s network and hardware, they have every right to keep an eye on you and deal with any suspicious behaviour as they deem fit.

• Keystroke Logging

Keystroke logging, or counting keystrokes is one of the many computer programs that can used on your computer to look into your various usernames and passwords. Now, The Stored Communication Act and Federal Law Wiretap Act can protect a few of your right, they still might not be able to help you if you are caught doing suspicious stuff on your company bandwidth and hardware.

• Looking Out For Their Property

When employees are using company bought or paid phones and automobiles, they should expect to be under surveillance all the time. Any company, who is in business to be successful, spends some pretty penny on the equipped and hardware they use. Thus, if you expect you emails to be read, also expect a GPS installed in the company car that you have decided to take an unauthorized trip to Napa valley on.

Conclusion

The world we live in has turned into a place where if we say something nasty about the company we work for on the social media, we’d we caught even if we meticulously get rid of the search history. Therefore, even though it maybe gruelling or tiresome, you need to read the policies and agreements you put your name on when you have decided to work for them. Plus, it is a part of your job to know the rules of your employer or company by heart anyway.
It is also important for any employers to put all such company policies into writing so that they may steer clear of any legal nightmare they might unknowingly become a part of because of this simple oversight.
